Charlie joined the BFMC Auxiliary in February 2005 also as a volunteer in the Ocean Blue Coffee Shop, the Gift Shop, and the Pink Door Thrift Shop. He is currently serving as the President of the Executive Board.
Charlie and Polly are both fantastic members of the community, giving additional time to other organizations. They volunteer with their local church on the personnel committee, in the church office, and also help with the church monthly newsletter. Polly has also volunteered for People for a Drug-Free Youth in the local area. In addition to their volunteer work, Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with Charlie and Polly through Bert Fish Medical Center Auxiliary, working on quarterly meetings and special events.
The Salute to Senior Service program, which launched in January 2012, includes a search for the most outstanding senior volunteer in each state and will culminate with the selection of a national Salute to Senior Service winner during Older Americans Month in May. State Senior HeroSM winners will receive plaques and their stories on the SalutetoSeniorService.com site. What’s more, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner’s non-profit charity of choice.
“Helping others defines life for many local retired seniors,” said Susan Miller, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in Daytona Beach. “And what a difference we have observed in seniors’ health, attitude and outlook among those who choose to stay active as they age.”
The award program is the first step to helping communities redefine aging, said Miller of the local Home Instead Senior Care office. “Charles and Polly exemplify the purpose of this program. We are so pleased to have nominated them in this program”.
