When you walk out of the door, whether to school, work, camping, or saving the world, there are always a few things you should have on hand. The keys to conquering whatever quest you are following are simple: a good pair of cargo pants, Gerber Knives, a pen, and your wallet. With these items, nothing can stand between you and your success.

Cargo Pants

These pants are greatly needed–obvious modesty aside–to carry all your things. Snacks, first aid kits, slips of paper with vital information written on them, etc. Make sure they are comfortable and have lots of pocket space. Cargo pants are great at holding lots and leaving your mobility uninhibited by a bag or backpack. Canvas pants or paramedic-style pants are the best, but Army-issue pants will work in a pinch, especially the older BDU kind.

Gerber Knives

Having a good knife on hand is always important. It can open tricky shrink-wrapped objects, get to hard-to-reach areas, or cut anything that needs cutting. Knives are perfect, since they can fit into pockets easily. A decent sized blade is important though; a penknife is not cut out for adventuring. A 2-inch blade is a good size to have. Gerber Knives especially are excellent tools to have.

A Pen

While it might not seem like much, a pen is still mightier than a sword. Leaving messages, taking notes, receiving messages, assembling thoughts, scribbling diagrams; a pen is a must. Instead of leaving breadcrumbs to mark your trail, just leave those who follow a friendly note. Fountain pens are not cut out for this kind of adventuring. A good ballpoint pen, preferably one with a clip, is the best. The pen should be made of sturdy plastic or a light metal. Do not leave home without it.

The Wallet

With a passport and a credit card, a person can get anywhere in the world. A wallet is like a miniature briefcase: you have credit cards, social security card, driver’s license, discount and rewards cards, peoples’ business cards, and cold hard cash for those desperate situations. Plus, you get to put a nice little picture of someone special in the wallet. Even better, ask them to join you on your adventure. The wallet is an extremely important part of the “Out the Door” outfit.

The world can be an exciting, challenging place, and to survive in it, you have to be ready for anything. Luckily, with those things you need: cargo pants, Gerber Knives, a good pen and your trusty wallet, you can do just that: succeed through anything. Prepare your “Ready for Anything” kit so the next time you leave the house, you’re prepared for whatever the day holds for you.
